Floods in Southeast Texas

April 30, 2013
An overnight thunderstorm brought up to 410 millimeters (16 inches) of rain to southeastern Texas on May 28 and May 29, 2006, reported the Dartmouth Flood Observatory. The resulting floods were visible through a break in the clouds on the afternoon of May 29, when the MODIS on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured thisimage. Water, black and dark blue in this color combination, forms dark circular pools east of Trinity Bay. To the west, the city of Houston spreads like a silvery spider, cement-gray against the bright green vegetation. Clouds are pale blue and white. Credit: Jeff Schmaltz
