Fires in Mynmar
May 2, 2013
The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite detected hundreds of actively burning fires (marked in red) when it passed over Southeast Asia on March 27, 2007. Both accidental forest fires and intentional land-use fires (such as fires for clearing brush) are common in the area during the dry season. The smoke from these fires is a health and transportation hazard. Credit: NASA image created by Jesse Allen, using data provided courtesy of the MODIS Rapid Response team.
