Fire Near Vandenberg Air Force Base

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image of a fire on the southern edge of Vandenberg Air Force Base on October 28, 2010. The fire is marked in red. According to the Associated Press, the fire started at 1:00 p.m. This image was taken just over an hour later, at 2:10 p.m. Some of the base was evacuated. Many NASA missions are launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base, including Aqua, the satellite that acquired this image.
