Typhoon Son-Tinh

July 17, 2013
Son-tinh strengthened into a typhoon on October 26, 2012, and subsequently weakened back into a tropical storm on October 29, Unisys Weather reported. On October 28, Son-tinh made landfall in Vietnam. By October 29, the storm had caused deadly landslides and floods in the Philippines, and downed power lines, destroyed crops, and damaged thousands of homes in Vietnam. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this natural-color image of Son-tinh on October 28, 2012. When MODIS took this picture, the center of the storm was just off the coast of Vietnam, west of Hainan. On October 29, Agence France-Presse reported that the storm was responsible for two deaths in Vietnam, and 27 deaths and nine missing persons in the Philippines.
