Supersonic Decelerator: Media Day

July 8, 2014
On Monday, the U.S. Navy's Pacific Missile Range Facility opened its doors to media to show off NASA's Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator (LDSD) project. Pictured here, Michael Gazarik, NASA's associate administrator for the Space Technology Mission Directorate talks to an interviewer on camera about the rocket-powered, saucer-shaped test vehicle scheduled to launch in early June from Kauai, Hawaii. This experimental flight test is designed to investigate breakthrough technologies to benefit future Mars missions, including those involving human exploration.
