This Full Level 1 Resolution image from MERIS (MEdium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) was acquired on 6 March 2005 over the states of Washington and Oregon (center lower image).

The image shows the Mount St. Helens Volcano (center image), north of Portland, which is visible along the banks of the Columbia River. Mount St. Helens, covered by snow, is localized near the lakes of Merwin and Yale.

Further north still is the Puget Sound River and the cities of Tacoma, Seattle, and Bellevue. Very little snow can be seen in this March image, and then only on the highest peaks, Mount St. Helens and Mount Hood, and Mount Rainier, which is covered year-round by glaciers. Bands 7 (red), 5 (green), 2 (blue), corresponding to visible light, were used to create this image.
