Tunis, Tunisia

January 16, 2006
This ERS-2 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) multitemporal color composite image is centered over Tunis. The capital of Tunisia is visible as the bright area at the center of the image. The city port lies to the east, along the coast of Lake Tunis. The Gulf of Tunis can be accessed from the city following the canal to the right of the city - that terminates at the subsidiary port, Halq al Wadi (La Goulette). The black X shape pattern northwest of Tunis is the city's airport. On the west and south sides of the city are the Tell Atlas Mountains. Here, interspersed among the mountain basins, are fertile valleys and plains. The image is made of three ERS-2 SAR PRI (Precision Radar Image) images acquired on different dates. A RGB color is assigned to each date of acquisition.

Dates of Acquisition (RGB): 26 March 2003, 25 April 2001, 9 July 2003
