Ethiopian Airlines, Gulf Air enter code share agreement

ADDIS ABABA, July 17 (Xinhua) — The Ethiopian Airlines (EAL), the country’s national airline, and the Gulf Air, the national carrier for the Kingdom of Bahrain, have entered into a strategic code sharing agreement, the EAL said Tuesday.

The agreement will enable the two airlines to open up routes and service to each other in their respective networks and provide customers with seamless connection between their networks, it said.

“The code sharing agreement with Gulf Air comes at a period when the Ethiopian Airlines is relentlessly pursuing a fast growth strategy in all areas of its activities,” said an EAL statement.

The statement said the airline has already reached various cooperation agreements with other African and European carriers and this accord is the first with Gulf region carrier.

“The partnership with Gulf Air will allow our customers to have access to additional points in the Middle East and Asian points from Bahrain and at the same time enable us to strengthen our presence in the region,” it said.
