Electro Energy Inc. To Provide Hybrid Auxiliary Power Technology to Trucking Industry
Posted on: Tuesday, 24 July 2007, 12:16 CDT
Electro Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: EEEI), a leading provider of advanced battery technologies and associated systems today announced an agreement to license hybrid auxiliary power unit (Hybrid APU) technology from Enertek Corporation. This unique patent-pending technology is comprised of self-contained, stand-alone diesel-powered, electrical power generation units (the Gen-a-Sys Q) that utilize a proprietary battery-based hybrid operating system designed to supply standby power to the commercial trucking industry. The Gen-a-Sys Q is used to operate appliances such as engine prewarmers, air conditioners, heaters, refrigerators, microwave ovens and televisions in diesel Class 8 trucks during federally mandated daily rest periods and to comply with state anti-idling regulations. This Hybrid APU technology is also capable of providing power for refrigeration trailers of all types and sizes (the eGen-a-Sys). Electro Energy is expected to be the sole supplier of the battery systems using its advanced nickel metal hydride and lithium ion battery technologies and battery management systems and market the Gen-a-Sys Q and eGen-a-Sys Hybrid APUs initially to the North American market.
Michael Reed, Electro Energy's President and CEO, said, "Many states now have commercial truck anti-idling regulations and beginning January 1, 2008 any Class 8 truck entering the State of California will be required to have an anti-idling device installed. The Gen-a-Sys Q and eGen-a-Sys systems power the truck hotel loads resulting in reduced exhaust emissions, noise and fuel expense compared to idling the truck engine. Electro Energy's advanced battery technology will reduce the weight of these systems and enable greater freight loading and revenue potential for truck operators."
Paul Baumann, Enertek's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, stated, "We recognized immediately that there are significant potential synergies between the two companies that will not only improve the value proposition of these hybrid auxiliary power units but also dramatically increase their overall energy and weight efficiency. Enertek's proprietary auxiliary power unit design coupled with Electro Energy's proprietary advanced battery technology will put Electro Energy in a strong position to serve the estimated $40 billion North American market for these units."
