The Coalition for Luggage Security Compares Dry Run Terror Alert and Airport Security Flaws
Posted on: Thursday, 26 July 2007, 09:20 CDT
The Coalition for Luggage Security commented on major security flaws at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, Arizona. Every night for 4 1/2 hours the airport has been left with little or no security in place. TSA agents leave at midnight and return at 4:30AM the following morning. During that period even the most basic of security procedures are thrown out the window. The x-ray machines and the metal detectors are all turned off, and passengers only have to show the "security guard" their ID and a boarding pass to get through the checkpoint. These "security guards" were observed letting numerous passengers through without looking through purses, backpacks and boxes. Flight attendants were not stopped, airport employees didn't get a second look, and even a man traveling with a bicycle and a crate on the back breezed through security.

"Yet, today the terror 'dry runs' are now being tested and announced and Americans are either being unnecessarily frightened to insure dependence on our 'airport police' environment. These potential terrorist activities should not be tolerated, period," said Josh Holm, Director of the Coalition for Luggage Security.
"Both of these related events have a common thread. That thread is refusing to change a broken system. No suitcases -- no bombs. No suitcases -- no need for security costs 24/7. The present system is man-made and flawed. A suitcase bomb does not have to go through security, and you can't test sneaky bomb look a-likes with a system that simply doesn't allow suitcases," said Richard A. Altomare founder of the Coalition for Luggage Security and CEO of Universal Express, Inc. (OTCBB: USXP).
"There are no back doors when you close the doors permanently. Send the TSA to our borders. Send the TSA to our ports. Airports don't need these logjams.
"Return our airports and the mood of our country to the color green. Fear ceases to exist when you totally remove the threat. Depending on a uniform in the airport eliminates nothing. Our present system relies on too many variables that can never be safe due to the multitude of uncontrollable factors. Fear of movement is not the answer in dealing with those who wish our citizens harm. Eliminating their potential weapons and creating futuristic airports is the American way of dealing with challenges. We've been playing on the terrorist's home field. Let's move the game to our home field advantage," concluded Mr. Altomare.
"The Coalition for Luggage Security urges Government officials and the airline industry to simply discuss alternate means of baggage delivery. Passenger luggage should not be shipped on passenger flights and we propose passengers be given a choice to ship their bags in advance of their trip to reach their destination before they arrive and have a separate line for luggage free travelers to gain access to the airport terminals. This action would vastly reduce the number of bags on airplanes and in airports. A decline in passenger baggage reduces the amount of luggage being lost and also cuts fuel consumption dramatically," concluded Mr. Holm.
