Spirit Airlines is planning to launch a daily nonstop service between its Fort Lauderdale base and Ponce, Puerto Rico, beginning November 1, 2007. The service will be via Mercedita Airport, just 5km from Ponce's business district.
Ponce is Spirit's third destination in Puerto Rico, with the airline already serving San Juan and Aguadilla. It is the carrier's 22nd destination in the Bahamas, Caribbean and Latin America region, and its 37th destination overall.
In addition to nonstop service from its Fort Lauderdale base, Spirit will also offer connecting service to Ponce from its domestic network. Spirit serves all routes with its fleet of Airbus aircraft, the youngest in the Americas.
"As Fort Lauderdale's hometown carrier serving more destinations than any other airline, we are thrilled to add daily service to Ponce," said Barry Biffle, chief marketing officer, Spirit Airlines. "Customers have come to prefer Spirit for our legendary ultra-low fares, on-time service, and friendly staff. We're looking forward to taking travelers to enjoy Ponce's colonial-era charm and its dynamic business environment. Likewise, Spirit is the excellent low fare option for Puerto Ricans to travel and enjoy the amenities of South Florida or any of our other destinations."
