Corner at the Crossroads THEN & NOW
IF you were a time traveller looking out the window of one of these tenement flats at Charing Cross when today’s two pictures were taken, the changes would be phenomenal.
We can clearly see that the horse-drawn carriages and tram tracks of the early 1900s have been replaced by cars, lorries and buses, and all the traffic lights and road markings that go with them in the 21st-century.
Fashions have changed for both men and women, and Sauchiehall Street’s skyline has rocketed upwards.
Most dramatically, the once seamless transition from the City Centre to the West End of Glasgow has been interrupted by massive motorway junction. Only the tenements themselves are unchanged. . . on the outside at least!
