Chance to Discuss Transport Issues

A public meeting on Nelson transport issues is to be held on August 6, to give people an opportunity to talk through their concerns.

Nelson city councillor Denise Henigan has organised the meeting, to be held at the Hearing Association rooms in Trafalgar Square, and will lead the discussion. She said there was “huge division” in the community on the current options to ease traffic congestion – clearways on Waimea and Rocks Rds or a new road along the Railway Reserve to St Vincent St – and there needed to be “some talk about the best way forward”.

Cr Henigan said it was evident that many people were not in favour of either option, and did not understand aspects of what was being presented.

The meeting on August 6 starts at 7.30pm.

The second of two public open days staged by Transit New Zealand and the Regional Land Transport Committee, will be held on Tuesday at the Tasman District Council chambers in Richmond from 2pm.
