C.R. Social Security Office Relocates

Jul. 26–The Social Security Administration office has moved to a new, larger building in southwest Cedar Rapids.

Jim Kennedy, assistant district manager, and his staff of 19 have relocated to a new 9,500-square-foot building at 3165 Williams Blvd. SW in Williams Plaza.

The agency was formerly located in leased space at 5021 Duffy Dr. NE.

“We moved over the weekend and opened at the new location on Monday,” Kennedy said.

Bus route No. 10 will take passengers from the Ground Transportation Center to the new Social Security office.

Office hours remain the same at the Williams Boulevard SW location, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday except for federal holidays. The phone number also is unchanged at (319) 393-0045.

The new Social Security office is located next to a branch of Dupaco Credit Union at Williams Boulevard and Trent Street SW, which opened earlier this spring.

Vermaas & Sons of Omaha owns the building where the Social Security Administration is located.

The company submitted a proposal for a 10-year lease that was accepted by federal officials.

Construction began within the last month on a Taco Bell restaurant that will be located east of the Trent Street entrance to Williams Plaza. It is expected to open in the fall.
