Solar EnerTech Corp. (OTCBB: SOEN) (the "Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of internationally recognized scientist Dr. Su-Huai Wei, who recently contracted with the SHU-SolarE Joint R&D Lab, as Chief Scientist.
Dr. Wei is a recognized expert in solid state theory, computer modeling, and large-scale numerical simulation. He comes to Solar EnerTech from a distinguished career at the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL, formerly SERI), a national laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, where he has been a member since 1985. Since October 2006, Dr. Wei has been a Principal Scientist and Research Supervisor in theoretical materials science at NREL. Prior to that, he served for three years as Principal Scientist and Team Leader of the computational material science team at the national laboratory.
Through years of research in the renewable energy field, Dr. Wei has made original and significant contributions to the understanding of electronic structure including advances in the magnetic properties of semiconductors, optoelectronic properties of photovoltaic and light-emitting materials, electronic properties of organic and hybrid semiconductors and defect physics in semiconductors and quantum dots amongst many other related areas of research.
Throughout his career, Dr. Wei has published more than 210 peer-reviewed papers, including more than 50 articles in the publications 'Physical Review Letters' and 'Physical Review Rapid Communications.' His papers have been cited more than 6,000 times. Since 1999, he has been a Fellow of the American Physical Society. Dr. Wei holds a Ph.D. in Physics, College of William and Mary in Virginia, and previously, he is a graduate from Fudan University of Shanghai, China.
The Company views Dr. Wei's union with the R&D Lab at Shanghai University as a significant milestone for its research programs, increasing the visibility of the facility towards attracting international attention and joint efforts from other academic leaders as contributors in the efforts of the joint R&D lab platform. As Chief Scientist, Dr. Wei looks forward to the implementation of research and project exchange programs between the NREL and Shanghai Joint Lab.
China has gradually become the world's solar industry manufacturing base, and Shanghai University, located at the heart of the fastest growing region in the rapidly expanding Chinese economy, is working towards achieving a leadership role in the research and development of innovative technologies for the future growth of the solar energy industry. This role is seen as an analog to Stanford University's accomplishments in the information technology industry's growth of Silicon Valley throughout the past decade.
Shanghai University's current research focus is on the development in high efficiency solar cells, research on materials physics, chemistry and device technology including nanocrystalline structures, faster electronic conductor and polymer thin film solar cells, as well as on semiconductor multilayer thin film solar cells based on non-silicon substrates.
About Solar EnerTech Corp. (OTCBB: SOEN)
Solar EnerTech is a photovoltaic ("PV") solar energy cell manufacturing enterprise based in Shanghai, China, where the Company has established a sophisticated 42,000-square foot manufacturing plant in Shanghai's Jinqiao Modern Technology Park. This facility is capable of producing 25Mw of solar cells from its current production line and 50Mw upon completion of the second 25Mw line that the Company anticipates will be fully operational in the fourth quarter of this year. Solar EnerTech has also established a Joint R&D Lab at Shanghai University to research and develop higher efficiency cells and to put the results of that research to use immediately in its manufacturing processes. Led by one of the industry's top scientists, the Company expects its R&D program to help bring Solar EnerTech to the forefront of advanced solar technology research and production. The Company has also established a marketing, purchasing and distribution arm in Northern California's Silicon Valley.
