The Coalition for Luggage Security Comments on British Airways Poor Performance
Posted on: Friday, 3 August 2007, 09:23 CDT
The Coalition for Luggage Security today noted the popular British airline British Airways, was forecast to lose more than 1.3 million bags this year. That equates to one in 35 passengers' bags lost. Andrew Dodgson, a spokesperson for the Transport and General Workers' Union said, "They do not have the baggage staff to cope should anything go wrong." Understaffing and overworking their employees has given British airway the ranking of worst European airline. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/08/02/nfly102.xml
"It is statistics like this that should make all airlines look at its current procedures and determine their own adequacy. All airlines should look for alternate means of luggage transportation to ease the congestion in airports and the daily loss rate," said Josh Holm, Director of The Coalition for Luggage Security.
"When we speak of the dramatic loss of suitcases in American airports, we never factor in how many of these foreign lost suitcases are of American travelers. The loss rate is even higher! What makes passengers think this kind of behavior is acceptable? When will travelers have had enough?" asked Richard A. Altomare, President and Founder of The Coalition For Luggage Security, and CEO of Universal Express, Inc. (OTCBB: USXP).
The Coalition for Luggage Security urges Government officials, domestic and abroad, and the airline industry, domestic and abroad, to evaluate their current systems shortcomings. Passenger luggage should not be shipped on passenger flights and we propose passengers be given an affordable choice to ship their bags in advance of their trip to reach their destination before they arrive. This action would dramatically reduce the number of bags on airplanes and in airports. A decline in passenger baggage reduces the amount of luggage being lost, and reduces the chances for security breaches. Managing security and passenger comforts become easier when baggage is taken out of airports and out the hands of travelers.
