Employees Union of Algiers Port Refuses Privatization

According to el-Khabar newspaper (August 6, 2007),the Employees Union of the Algiers Port refused the port privatization proposal offered by the Emirates International Dubai Ports Company. The Unions head, Mr. Mamer Kermache, said that they are against the idea of conceding Algiers Port terminal to Dubai Ports mostly as the terminal guarantees 70% of the whole port incomes. Mr. Kermache said the union he presides refuses as well the idea to hold a meeting between Algerian Ports National Coordinating Unions and the Emirate operator.
