SunGold Foods’ SunButter(TM) Tastes Like Peanut Butter, But Is Peanut-Free

FARGO, N.D., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ — SunGold Foods, a subsidiary of Red River Commodities, one of the largest producers of sunflower-based food products, announces its SunButter products are peanut-free and produced in a peanut-free production facility. As a result, the products are available for those consumers who desire a great tasting alternative but have peanut allergies. Food service organizations such as hospitals, schools and restaurants can again service peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for kids and adults alike.

Consumers can find SunButter products in retail grocery stores and health food stores nationwide including Albertsons LLC, Andronico’s, Bristol Farms, Gelson’s, Giant, Kroger’s, Publix, Super Target, Trader Joe’s, Wegmans, Winn-Dixie, and Whole Foods. SunGold Foods produces the SunButter products, which are made from sunflower seeds and have a fresh-roasted flavor comparable to that of peanut butter. Consumers’ response to the product is reported very strong with sales up more than 50 percent. In taste tests, some consumers prefer the taste of SunButter to that of peanut butter.

Nutritionally, SunButter is a healthy product containing double the fiber, more iron, and 30 percent less saturated fat than typical peanut butter.
