AIRPORT worker Martin Sutcliffe is taking up the gruelling Iron Man challenge to raise more than pounds 1,000 for life-limited children at Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Martin, of Wolston, Warwickshire, will begin one of the UK’s toughest endurance events at 6am on Sunday by swimming 2.4 miles then cycling 112 miles and finally running a full marathon of 26.2 miles.

The Birmingham International Airport worker said: “It’s the equivalent of swimming from the front of the airport to the NEC Arena via Junction 6 on the M42, racing my bike to London Bridge and then taking part in the London Marathon. All this has to be done in less than 16 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds.

“Training started seriously in February and I have lost over two stone.

“I regard myself as really lucky, in that ‘my health is my wealth’ and that I have choices.

“Many people don’t ever get such opportunities.”

Money raised will help support Acorns Hospice.
