“The Orbit stabilized antenna operates very effectively with Hughes satellite terminals, providing affordable broadband access for the maritime and oil and gas industries at download speeds of 2 Mbps or higher,” said Keary Cannon, vice president of marketing and sales for Hughes Europe. “GMC can offer a variety of dedicated or shared bandwidth options using our Ku-band coverage.”
The maritime market relies more and more on satellite communications for their broadband communications requirements. The Oil and Gas sector is also increasingly using broadband satellite technology, not only for day-to-day operations, but for reliable backup services on their offshore platforms.
The HN series of broadband terminals is based on the IPoS satellite standard, which includes the DVB-S2 standard with Adaptive Coding & Modulation (ACM), enabling high throughput using Ku-band antenna sizes smaller than previously possible on shipping vessels. The HN terminals support one or more LAN ports with IP compression and acceleration for optimized performance over satellite.
“Orbit Technology Group is a leading provider of stabilized antennas, and we are pleased to assist in bringing this comprehensive solution to market with Global Marine Communications,” said Jon Harrison of Orbit Technology Group.
“Hughes is the world’s largest provider of broadband satellite solutions and Orbit has an enviable position in the market supplying gyroscopic antennas. GMC looks forward to working with both Hughes and Orbit to deliver this low-cost solution,” said Rick Hoy, sales director, global sales and marketing at Global Marine Communications.
