RRTA Propaganda’ Tom Tamski Willow Street
Editor, New Era:
Reference your article of Aug. 16, “Turning a corner.”
The Red Rose Transit Authority should make every effort to retain the services of their public relations specialist (interpret that as “propaganda specialist”).
Hardly a year goes by that the RRTA will have the public believe they are facing financial constraints which result in fare increases, elimination of some routes, reducing services in other routes, etc.
In other words, they just don’t see how they can make it without the intervention of God and or an influx of funds from Gov. Rendell, who supports mass transit.
Contrary to all the financial hardship portrayed by RRTA, it appears that their distress is/was an illusion.
Your article states that the RRTA agreed to purchase the lot at Queen and Chestnut streets from the museum for $1.275 million. Additionally, they will build a 10,000 square-foot addition to the Empire Building, retail space along Chestnut Street and expand its bus station. Although no estimated costs for these projected endeavors were stated, they will exceed mere “chump change.”
For an organization that would have us believe that their financial hardship is unbearable, the question arises, from what source did $1.275 million appear and from where/whom will the additional millions required for their projects be derived?
Perhaps the RRTA should reevaluate their publicity releases concerning their plight and adhere to the old adage, i.e., “You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all the people all of the time.”
