Robotic Camera Used to Search for Miners
Officials will use a robotic camera to search for six coal miners trapped in Utah’s Crandall Canyon Mine. Officials said the small robot represents a long shot in their efforts to locate the missing miners, who have been underground for three weeks.
A seventh borehole also will be drilled into the mine’s kitchen area, more than 1,000 feet into the mountain, the Deseret Morning News reported Sunday.
The robotic camera is to be lowered into the mine to scour the area. The six miners have been trapped since Aug. 6, the newspaper reported.
The move comes after two attorneys, along with family members of the trapped miners, demanded to see the full report on the mine’s ground-control rescue system.
Families of the trapped miners expressed their gratitude for the last-ditch rescue attempts.
