Vivace Semiconductor, a leader in digital media processing chips, today announced it has signed long-term agreements with Serial Microelectronics (HK) Ltd. and China National Electronic Device Corporation (CNEDC) to market, sell, distribute and support its VSP line of products in China. Both companies bring extensive experience in semiconductor distribution and serve numerous consumer and commercial end-markets for semiconductors in the region. In addition their strong technical sales and FAE teams will help accelerate Vivace’s customer penetration throughout China for its high-performance, low power chips that address the emerging requirements of portable multimedia applications.

“We are confident both Serial and CNEDC will be good partners for Vivace because of their experience and the full range of services they offer in China. Both have proven experience in the markets we want to serve and a strong portfolio of complementary products. Their knowledge of the mobile market combined with their broad customer resource bases make them ideal for Vivace as we establish our product line in this region,” said Cary Ussery, president and CEO of Vivace.

CNEDC and Serial represent many well-known brands in the electronics components and semiconductor industries, and have full service sales, distribution and support facilities in multiple locations across China. Each has strong records of success in the portable multimedia device, cellular phone and display markets.

Vivace’s first product available is the VSP100 media co-processor, a chip specifically designed to address the high volume portable video market by offering a cost-effective, high-quality video solution. The device enables real-time support of multiple video formats, and D1 processing including downscaling to enable customers flexibility in choice of screen resolution. The chip maximizes battery life by operating at low clock rates and low power, with advanced power management features. The company will also offer the VSP 200, which is a complete chip platform aimed at higher end portable products such as mobile TV, as well as digital TV systems.
