Consol Miner Injured in Mingo
MILLERS CREEK – A coal miner was seriously injured at the Bronzite Mine in Mingo County on Monday, according to the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
T.D. Lively of Homeland Security said she believes the man was transported by ambulance to a hospital Monday afternoon. Her office was notified of the incident at 5:08 p.m.
Lively was not sure where emergency workers drove the miner, or other details surrounding the accident.
The Bronzite Mine, formerly known as Northstar, is an underground coal mine at Millers Creek in Mingo County, just off U.S. 119, Lively said.
Consol of Kentucky Inc. has operated the mine since August 2006, according to information on the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration’s Web site.
MSHA records show that eight “unintentional” roof falls occurred at the mine in 2007, but nobody was injured, no equipment damaged and ventilation went uninterrupted.
Since Consol took over, the company reported two minor injuries in October 2006, according to MSHA records.
