Jarvis and Balfour Winners in Shake-Up at Network Rail ; In Brief
MAINTENANCE firms Jarvis and Balfour Beatty, who were respectively at the centre of investigations into the fatal Potters Bar and Hatfield train derailments, are among the winners in a major shake-up at Network Rail. The company today ditched two of its six maintenance contractors in a major simplification of its procedures, putting trackwork in the hands of just four companies covering four regions. The contracts, each worth up to 100 million a year, have been granted to Jarvis, Balfour Beatty, First Engineering (a subsidiary of Babcock International) and Amey (part of Heathrow Airport owner Ferrovial). The losers in the shake-up are Carillion and Corus subsidiary Grant Rail..
