UC Rusal, one of the world's largest producers of aluminum and alumina, and HydroOGK, a Russian renewable energy firm, have chosen Russian power plant equipment company Power Machines to supply hydro generators to the Boguchanskaya hydro power plant in Russia.
Under the contract, Power Machines will design, manufacture, and supply nine hydro generators, each with a 330MW nominal capacity, to the Boguchanskaya hydro power plant (HPP). The equipment is set to be delivered from 2009 to 2012. In addition, Power Machines will deliver technical supervision during installation and pre-operational verification. The contract value exceeds RUR3 billion.
The Boguchanskaya HPP on the Angara river is one of the largest ongoing construction projects in the Russian energy sector. Construction of the power plant is part of the Boguchanskoye Energy and Metals Complex project, which also includes the construction of the Boguchansky aluminum smelter. The aluminum smelter will be a major consumer of the energy generated by the power plant. UC Rusal and HydroOGK are carrying out the project on a parity basis.
