MWAA Selects Era for Reagan National and Dulles Noise and Flight Track Monitoring System

Posted on: Wednesday, 12 September 2007, 12:00 CDT

Era Corporation announced today at its annual AirScene.com Customer Conference in Washington, D.C. that the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) has selected Era, after a competitive solicitation process, to install its new Noise & Flight Track Monitoring System (NFTMS). The NFTMS will feature Era's AirScene.com NOMS and Brueel & Kjaer's 3639E noise monitors and will serve Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport.

MWAA has a long and successful history of addressing aircraft noise concerns of the national capital region. Reagan National is located near downtown Washington, D.C., and has some of the most stringent operational guidelines, including nighttime noise limits and recommended noise abatement procedures. Washington Dulles, located less than thirty miles west of Reagan National, has few operational limitations and is one of the fastest growing airports located in one of the fastest growing communities in the United States. In 2006, Reagan National and Washington Dulles served over 41 million passengers on more than 655,000 flights.

"MWAA's competitive award to Era and Brueel & Kjaer's technology only strengthens our position in North America for Noise and Flight Tracking technology," said Bill Colligan, Era's VP and General Manager, Airport Operations Solutions. "We are the largest NOMS supplier in the United States and with the addition of the two MWAA airports, now serve 14 airports in the Northeastern United States alone."

AirScene.com by Era is the world's most advanced noise and operations monitoring software and includes features such as noise measurement, noise modeling, violations management, community and statutory reporting, complaint management and web-based community engagement.

An additional benefit of the system is its web-hosted architecture. Recently, Era decided to move from on-site servers to the award-winning web site hosting company, Savvis Corporation. Experienced professional network engineers from Savvis monitor and maintain Era's equipment at their secure sites 24/7/365 to ensure reliable service and compliance with Era's comprehensive service level agreement. Savvis facilities are backed-up with both on-site redundant fail-over hardware as well as an off-site backup facility, creating a 99.9% level of reliability.
