TANDBERG Television, part of the Ericsson Group, today announced that its market-leading digital video processing technologies were recognized with three prestigious Cable & Satellite International (CSI) Product of the Year Awards at a ceremony held during IBC in Amsterdam. TANDBERG Television’s best-in-class solutions won the categories for best digital video processing technology, best outside broadcast technology or service and best satellite contribution/distribution/transmission solution. The triple success builds on TANDBERG Television’s six nominations for the awards — the most for any company at this year’s event.

“We are excited that CSI’s prestigious judging panel has chosen to recognize our engineering excellence and best-in-class technology. These awards reinforce TANDBERG Television’s reputation as the world’s leading provider of video compression solutions throughout the content delivery chain. Whether it is advancing HD newsgathering, satellite contribution and distribution efficiency or leading bandwidth performance and density for IPTV, we are enabling the world’s leading service providers to deliver next-generation digital TV business models across any platform to any device™,” says Eric Cooney, President and CEO of TANDBERG Television.

TANDBERG Television’s three awards are:

Best digital video processing technology:

TANDBERG iPlex UltraCompression HD & SD IPTV head-end

Best outside broadcast technology or service:

TANDBERG EN8040 MPEG-4 AVC HD DSNG

Best satellite contribution/distribution/transmission solution:

TANDBERG SM6620 PREKOR

“Winning three awards is a tremendous honor and a great accolade to our engineering and product management teams in the UK and the US. BSKYB was the only other company to win three awards, for its Sky HD service. We are delighted to see this strong recognition of one of our key customers in the European pay-TV market,” says Roger Bolton, Executive VP of compression solutions at TANDBERG Television.

The Cable & Satellite International Product of the Year Awards have gained a reputation as one of the most comprehensive and competitive technology awards anywhere in the world. They are judged independently of Cable & Satellite International magazine by a panel of experts that includes practicing and former heads of engineering and operations from some of the world’s most important network operators, well-respected consultants and senior industry analysts. The awards are designed to reward technical and product marketing excellence in the cable, satellite, terrestrial broadcasting, IPTV and mobile TV sectors. This year more than 160 entries from over 80 companies competed in the 17 award categories — the judges chose TANDBERG Television’s solutions because they demonstrated the spirit of true innovation and the first to market achievement that these awards were founded to recognize. http://www.cable-satellite.com/awards/

TANDBERG iPlex HD & SD IPTV head-end

The iPlex UltraCompression HD and SD IPTV head-end product is based on TANDBERG Television’s world first, next-generation AVC platform and provides a step change in digital video distribution by combining the broadest choice of density and enhanced features with the industry’s leading picture quality performance. The TANDBERG iPlex is a flexible video processing platform, rather than just being an encoder chassis, and offers the industry’s most complete IPTV head-end video processing solution that includes MPEG-2 SD encoding, MPEG-4 AVC HD and SD encoding, MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 transcoding, MPEG-2 transrating, and picture-in-picture (PIP) service generation in a high density, NEBS-certified, telco-designed chassis.

TANDBERG Television – EN8040 MPEG-4 AVC HD DSNG

The EN8040 is TANDBERG Television’s latest, second generation MPEG-4 AVC HD DSNG. Building upon the success of the award winning EN5940, the EN8040 provides a multi-format encoding platform combined with an advanced satellite modulator. The EN8040 supports a variety of formats including MPEG-2 SD, MPEG-4 AVC SD and MPEG-4 AVC HD. The MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 encoders can be used simultaneously and support low latency modes for delay critical applications. The advanced DVB-S2 satellite modulator adds further significant efficiency savings, and allows the EN8040 to provide high-quality HD contribution using satellite bandwidths typically used for SD today. The EN8040 and EN8050 can also be used to increase the efficiency of DENG transmissions.

TANDBERG PREKOR™ Satellite Modulator

TANDBERG Television’s SM6620 PREKOR™ Satellite Modulator is the world’s most bandwidth efficient, open standards, transmission system for High Definition video carriage over satellite. It provides significant gains in bandwidth efficiency by maximizing transponder bandwidth usage, improving received signal quality via a process of Dynamic Pre-Correction. This process uniquely equalizes for all the degrading effects introduced by the satellite – TWT amplifier, IMUX filter and OMUX filter. Limitations in traditional modulator design prevent this available bit rate gain being realized without degrading the quality of the received RF signal.

The SM6620 PREKOR™ achieves increased bit rate efficiency without additional RF degradation on the satellite link and without changes to the implementation of Direct to Home or professional receivers.
