Atlanta Airport Gets Funds for Expansion

September 13, 2007

The new international terminal for Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has gotten a big money boost though still in the planning stages.

With an eye toward completion by 2011, two Atlanta City Council committees approved $110 million in construction funds to build and equip two tunnels through which underground trains will carry passengers between the facility and the main terminal, the Atlanta Journal Constitution said Thursday.

The transportation committee approved release of $45 million for the tunnels and concrete lining. The finance committee later approved $65 million for trains, track and various related systems.

The Atlanta airport is one of the world’s busiest.
