A Philadelphia bus driver hit by a bullet as he pulled up to a stop early Thursday hit the accelerator and drove his passengers out of danger.
Malcolm McLaughlin hit an emergency signal and kept the bus moving toward the nearest hospital, officials said. Police found him about five blocks away.
A woman passenger was also hurt. She was treated at Albert Einstein Medical Center and released, while McLaughlin was hospitalized overnight after being wounded in the back, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
He was able to drive that bus about five blocks after being injured and keep the rest of the passengers safe, said Felipe Suarez, a spokesman for the Southeast Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. So it's a pretty heroic story if you ask me.
The gunfire apparently came from a shootout between two men. No suspects had been charged as of late Thursday.
Philadelphia has been hit with a rash of gun violence this year, much of it lethal. Earlier this week, a woman was wounded by a stray bullet as she worked in the store she owned with her husband.
