Early Morning Derailment on CN Northern Mainline Sparks Call for Inquiry
VICTORIA (CP) – Another CN train derailment, this time on the main line servicing Prince Rupert, has sparked calls for a public inquiry.
A CN (TSX:CNR) spokeswoman says 29 of 99 grain cars in a westbound train came off the tracks early this morning about 50 kilometres east of Terrace.
Kelli Svendsen says there were no injuries and the line may be back in service as early as Tuesday.
This latest derailment, the second in this area of northwest British Columbia in less than six weeks, has the opposition transportation critic calling for a public inquiry into CN Rail’s safety practices.
New Democrat Maurine Karagianis says it’s time for the B.C. government to take serious steps.
The derailment occurred on the line that services the newly opened Fairview container port in Prince Rupert.
