MP Calls for Rethink to Get Stock Moving
By DAN BUGLASS
THE Department of Transport must have an immediate rethink on its decision not to grant a temporary lifting of the restrictions on drivers during the foot-and-mouth crisis, according to Angus McNeil MP, the SNP spokesman for rural affairs in the House of Commons.
McNeil says the restrictions are only adding to the backlog of animals needing to get to market.
He said: “I totally understand the Road Haulage Association’s frustration and that of many farmers at this situation.
“The welfare of thousands of animals is at stake.
“This just shows the Westminster government’s complete failure to understand the situation in Scotland.
“The Department of Transport must immediately see sense and change its position.”
