GLE Uses CADWorx Plant Design Software for Largest Gas Processing Plant Currently Under Construction in United States

COADE announced today that the company's CADWorx plant design suite is being used by Gas Liquids Engineering Ltd. (GLE), Alberta, Canada in the design of Meeker II, the largest gas processing plant currently under construction in the United States. According to data from facility owner Enterprise Products Partners LP of Houston, this second phase at the Meeker, Colorado facility will double the plant's gas processing capacity to 1.5 billion cubic feet per day. Meeker II is scheduled for completion in July 2008, an approximate fourteen-month construction schedule.
According to Bruce Parsons, the vice president of Drafting Services and Information Technology at GLE, the challenges of such a large project included interdepartmental and inter-company coordination plus interfacing with fabricators, customers and other engineering firms working on the project. "Thanks to our internal work processes and CADWorx, the plant design process was all pretty much seamless," explained Parsons. By developing a CADWorx 3D design model, GLE was able to conduct weekly reviews between its designers and engineers and the customer. "By doing these on-going model reviews, everything was much faster, which saved us all time and money," Parsons added. "Everybody involved on this project was impressed with how well this worked."
The capabilities of CADWorx gave GLE's multi-discipline designers the flexibility work in the most efficient manner possible by providing total design coordination for their areas. For instance, a single person could model the piping systems and also design support steel and locate individual pipe supports. Once done, they automatically produce bills of material and generated isometrics for engineers. Using the bi-directional interface between CADWorx and COADE's CAESAR II pipe stress analysis package, the same designers can send piping configurations directly to stress engineers for analysis. "Because we can do all of these additional things in CADWorx, it saves the engineers probably 40% of their time by the designers providing this information," Parsons concluded. Construction of Meeker II is already underway, and GLE expects to complete the rest of its design work on the project by November, 2007.
