While the United Nations Meets, Industry Executives Speak Out on Climate Change and Energy Security in the Latest Issue of World Energy Magazine
Posted on: Wednesday, 26 September 2007, 18:00 CDT
Tony Hayward, the new chief executive of the oil industry supermajor British Petroleum, and Lord Peter Truscott of the British Parliament each address climate change in their articles appearing in the current issue of World Energy magazine. Articles available at WWW.WorldEnergySource.com.
In his article, "Harnessing the Power of Technology and Markets to Solve Climate Change," Hayward shares what he believes is overwhelming evidence of climate change. He writes that while some may prefer to wait until there is no scientific doubt of its existence, BP believes that now is the time to be proactive. Both government and industry, he says, must use rapidly improving technology to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to a warmer climate.
Offering a governmental perspective, Truscott applauds the United Kingdom's steps toward addressing climate change in his article, "The U.K. Government Tackles the Challenges of Climate Change and Energy Security." Following energy discussions at the 2007 G8 Summit, Truscott looks at the U.K.'s two guiding energy principles, outlines the specifics of a low-carbon economy, emphasizes the importance of planning and makes the case for nuclear energy.
