New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) ranked the highest of the state's four natural gas utilities according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2007 Gas Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study. The study measures overall customer satisfaction based on company image, communications, price and value, billing and payment, customer service and field service. The results, released today, placed NJNG first overall in the state and region in two of these categories.
"Every day our employees are focused on our commitment to providing exceptional customer service. Being recognized as the state leader in customer satisfaction and service is a testament to their hard work and dedication," said Laurence M. Downes, chairman and CEO of NJNG. "We will use the results of this study to identify areas where we can improve even further over the next year to exceed our customers' expectations."
Since the study began, NJNG has performed at or above the industry average in all categories with an overall customer satisfaction rating greater than the regional average.
This year, NJNG ranked first in customer service and company image among the 17 gas utilities in the east region. The company's overall score of 645 is well above both the regional and national averages. NJNG's scores for communications and price and value were both second in the region. Additionally, the company's billing and payment ranked third in the region, while field service ranked fourth. NJNG ranked first in the state in five of six categories.
The Gas Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study, published for the past six years, measures customer satisfaction with the 58 largest U.S. gas utility providers. These results are based on more than 25,000 online interviews with U.S. residential gas customers. The responses were collected in four waves beginning in September 2006 and ending in July 2007.
