NASA Taps Bethesda-Based Lockheed

Lockheed Martin Corp., of Bethesda, the world’s largest defense contractor by sales, said it won a contract worth $178 million from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to build ultraviolet instruments for Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites. The first launch of the GOES-R series satellites is scheduled for December 2014. Data from the spacecraft provide short- term, advance weather warnings to the commercial, educational and public sectors.
