KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to Launch Nonstop Dallas-Fort Worth-Amsterdam Service
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, in cooperation with its joint venture partner Northwest Airlines, today announced that it will begin daily nonstop service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Amsterdam, the Netherlands, beginning on March 30, 2008.
In addition to providing the only nonstop service connecting Dallas-Fort Worth area travelers with one of Europe's most popular business and leisure destinations, the new route will provide convenient connections through KLM's hub at Amsterdam's award-winning Schiphol Airport to more than 75 destinations throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East and India.
"The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is an important part of the growing global economy," said Peter Hartman, president and CEO of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. "We believe that our comfortable service and convenient connections will allow area business and leisure travelers to easily connect to cities throughout Europe and the world. We also look forward to providing travelers throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East and India with comfortable and convenient service to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex."
KLM flight 670 (NWA flight 8670) will depart Dallas-Fort Worth in the late afternoon and arrive at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport early the following morning. The return, flight KL669 (NW8669) will depart from Schiphol Airport in the morning and arrive early in the afternoon in Dallas-Fort Worth.
KLM will operate the route with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, offering 30 World Business Class seats and 221 Economy Class seats.
KLM's A330s are equipped with the carrier's World Business Class sleeper seats and an on-demand interactive entertainment system in both cabins offering video and audio selections, video games and individual telephones. The system also allows customers to send and receive text messages to any mobile phone or e-mail address anywhere in the world. Shortly before arrival, the system provides customers with up-to-the-minute connecting flight transfer information.
In addition to the interactive entertainment system, World Business Class travelers enjoy an array of features including sleeper seats with a 170-degree recline, privacy canopy, laptop power port, cycling lumbar support and adjustable headrest.
Dallas-Fort Worth will be the 19th North American destination served by the combined KLM-Northwest Airlines joint venture via Schiphol Airport. KLM and Northwest offer convenient daily nonstop service between Amsterdam and Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, Hartford, Conn., Houston (Intercontinental), Los Angeles, Memphis, Tenn., Mexico City, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Montreal, New York (JFK), Newark, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Washington, D.C.
Dallas-Fort Worth becomes the 12th North American destination and the 61st intercontinental destination served with KLM operated aircraft. In total, KLM will operate 106 flights to North American destinations per week.
In total, KLM and Northwest Airlines will operate 250 flights each week between Europe and North America.
In 1991, KLM and Northwest formed the beginning of a joint venture partnership to operate an extensive trans-Atlantic network. The joint venture, which has antitrust immunity, allows for coordinated pricing, scheduling, product development and marketing.
In 1997, this basic joint venture was expanded into an agreement to include all of KLM's and Northwest's operation over the North Atlantic from North America to Europe and India.
Codesharing between KLM and Northwest has been implemented on flights to 59 European, seven Middle Eastern, 13 African, five Asian and 176 U.S. cities. Codesharing is an agreement whereby an airline's flights can be marketed under the two-letter designator code of another airline, thereby allowing the two carriers to provide joint service with one aircraft.
The new KLM service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Amsterdam will be widely available for sale beginning Friday, September 28 through KLM's Web site at www.klm.com, Northwest's Web site at www.nwa.com, KLM/Northwest reservations at 1-800-447-4747 or through travel agents.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is one of the two airlines of Air France KLM. KLM is the oldest carrier in the world still operating under its original name. Air France KLM is the largest airline company in the world in terms of operating revenues, and the third largest in the world (largest in Europe) in terms of revenue-passenger-kilometers. KLM is a member of SkyTeam, an airline alliance that offers customers one of the world's most extensive global networks.
