Kurdish Rebels Kill 13 People in Turkey
Members of the Kurdistan Workers Party killed 13 people and buried their bodies in southeastern Turkey Sunday, it was reported.
The 13 victims had been traveling near the Iraqi border on their way to Turkey’s Sirnak Province when Kurdish rebels ambushed them, EuroNews.com reported.
Seven of those killed in the ambush were members of a Kurdish militia that had been recruited by Turkey to act as village guards.
Those recruits have been waging a military operation in the region against members of the Kurdistan Workers Party, resulting in the deaths of 20 guerrillas in the area.
The ambush came one day after the Iraqi and Turkish governments reached an agreement to limit the number of attacks by Kurdish rebels on southern Turkey.
The Web site said the Turkish government has essentially been at war with the Kurdish group since 1984, resulting in the deaths of more than 30,000 people overall.
