Stronger Wind for SmartWings
Travel Service (Prague, Czech Republic), airline company, was taken over by the airline company Icelandair (Iceland) in Sep 2007. It has taken over 50% of TS’ shares. Icelandair could increase its share in TS up to 80% of shares in 2008. TS operates the low-cost airlines SmartWings (Czech Republic), which are considered to be very prospective by Icelandair. SmartWings are to transport about 20% of 2 mil passengers transported by TS in total in 2007. Plans for the SmartWings’ expansion come in the time of the low-cost airline market’s rapid raise. Competition at the airport in Prague- Ruzyne rapidly increases as well. Cheap air tickets also started to be sold by the national airlines Ceske aerolinie (CSA) (Prague, Czech Republic) in Sep 2007.
