United Natural Foods Harnesses Sun With Solar System to Run Its Natural Foods Distribution Center

WHAT United Natural Foods (NASDAQ: UNFI) will be celebrating its solar photovoltaic system at its natural foods distribution facility in Rocklin, Calif. The one megawatt system consists of more than 7,000 panels that cover a massive space - 175,000 square feet, or approximately four acres of rooftop -- atop the company's Rocklin facility. It is believed to be the largest solar array of its kind in Placer County, California.
United Natural Foods is one of the country's largest distributors of natural and organic foods and is the primary supplier to the nation's largest natural and organic retailer, Whole Foods Market, Inc.
With the development and installation managed by American Capital Energy, an end-to-end integrator of customized, commercial solar power systems, the system is expected to generate 1.5 million kilowatt hours per year from the system, enough to power more than 226 average homes.
