Oct. 4–A section at Tucson International Airport was evacuated Thursday morning after a loaded gun was found in a restroom trashcan, officials said.

The gun was found about 9:15 a.m. in a men’s restroom located beyond the airport’s security checkpoint, Christopher White, a Transportation Security Administration spokesman, said in a news release.

The secure area of the airport was evacuated and searched.

About 200 people waiting to board flights had to be re-screened.

Several flights have been delayed, but the airport is operating as normal, officials said.

The incident is being investigated by the Transportation Security Administration and local authorities. No details about how the gun got into the restroom were immediately available Thursday morning and those flying out of the airport later in the day are not expected to be affected, said Karen Garmon, a spokeswoman for the Tucson Airport Authority.
