CHURCHILL, Man. - Prime Minister Stephen Harper is pledging more money for northern scientific research and improvements to the port of Churchill.
He says the government will finance a variety of scientific studies, including research on how polar bears, seals and whales are adapting to climate change. He's also promising $40 million to improve the rail line running north to Churchill and up to $8 million for the port improvements.
Harper says these efforts are part of his government's Arctic sovereignty strategy.
The Conservatives have promised to bolster Canada's presence in the North.
