Bend City Council Pushes Residents to Buy Green Power

October 5, 2007

The Bend City Council, in partnership with the Bend Chamber of Commerce and Pacific Power, has asked residents and businesses to sign up for Pacific Power’s Blue Sky Program in order to address global climate change.

Blue Sky energy comes from wind, solar and biomass facilities.

The goal is to have 10 percent of the community buy renewable power by Earth Day 2008. At 10 percent, Bend would achieve a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Green Power Community designation.

For every percentage point above 10 percent, the city promises to increase its participation by purchasing up to 15 percent of its power from renewable resources.

Bend currently buys 10 percent of its energy from renewable resources through the Blue Sky Program.
