Westmoreland's Savage Mine Receives Montana Governor's Award for Safety and Health

Westmoreland Coal Company (AMEX: WLB) announced today that Westmoreland Savage Corporation's Savage Mine has received the Montana Governor's Award for Safety and Health for the category of Mines and Sand & Gravel Operations. The Savage Mine has an exceptional safety record. Employees at the mine have worked over five years without a lost-time accident. The Governor's Awards for Safety and Health are the highest honor given by the State of Montana for recognition of an employer's commitment to excellence in workplace safety and health.

The Savage Mine is an 874-acre surface mine located on the Montana-North Dakota border. Coal from the mine supplies fuel for the Lewis & Clark Power Station and a sugar beet refinery near Sidney, Montana.
