Storwize Makes Major Move into the United Kingdom With Innovative Primary Data Compression Technology

Posted on: Thursday, 11 October 2007, 09:00 CDT

Storwize Inc., the only provider of primary storage compression solutions, today announced a major business expansion into the United Kingdom, bringing its best-of-breed primary data compression solutions into a prime global market.

The push into the UK is yet another milestone for Storwize in creating and consistently expanding upon its strong global presence for its unique STN-6000 data compression appliances. Developing a business base in the UK also gives the company access to other European Union countries.

Storwize has appointed Blair Innes to head the UK operations as the UK Country Manager. Innes is a veteran with more than twenty years experience in the storage industry. He comes to Storwize from Sun Microsystems UK, where he most recently was Sales Manager in the Storage Practice with responsibility for growing the large Commercial Group to an estimated revenue stream of £25 million. He was previously Managing Director for BlueArc UK, and has also held sales positions at Network Appliance and StorageTek, and was a worldwide storage evangelist in a prior stint at Sun.

"My decision to join Storwize was simply a case of recognising the opportunity of the right technology at the right time," said Innes. "I have yet to see another technology that solves so many of the critical storage issues facing IT managers by providing across-the-board reductions in both capital and operational expenditures, as well as providing a sizeable reduction in a company's carbon footprint."

Storwize has already experienced success in the UK market, having partnered last year with Zycko, a value-add distributor of best-in-class IT infrastructure solutions, as a master distributor throughout the United Kingdom. Zycko distributes for more than 30 leading IT solutions vendors, including Emulex, Fujitsu Siemens Computers and Hitachi Data Systems, enabling more than 3,000 resellers, system integrators and service providers to deliver open-system and future-proof storage architectures to customers throughout the UK. In addition, Storwize has signed agreements with B2Net, HPS, Handd, Redstor, NAS UK and Landmark as its initial group of UK resellers.

"With the improved storage performance, bandwidth preservation and dramatic equipment and operational costs savings of the Storwize platform, it makes good business sense no matter where a company is located. We're excited to provide this advanced and unique technology, along with local service and support, to our customers in the United Kingdom," said Gal Naor, Storwize CEO. "Our efforts in the UK will be the model for our expansion into other key markets worldwide."

Storwize's flagship product, STN-6000 appliance, compresses data in "real time," working in full transparency with every level of an organization. This high-performance product compresses the storage space by shrinking the file data, typically to a third of the original space. By compressing data at rest, Storwize lets organizations retain fast access to files and databases while saving on capital, operation and maintenance costs, without altering vendor storage functionality and preserving complete transparency to users, applications, databases, and storage and network environments. Storwize requires no workflow changes, no software agents, no drivers and no configuration changes, and yet enhances throughput considerably.

Storwize will be showing its line of data compression solutions at Storage Expo in London, (Olympia) October 17-18, in booth 292.
