The AdWheel Awards, which recognize excellence in public transportation marketing and communications, were presented at a gala awards ceremony on October 8 in Charlotte, NC, as part of APTA’s 2007 Annual Meeting. More than 750 entries were received in this year’s competition.

“Receiving a coveted AdWheel Award is a prestigious accomplishment and should be celebrated as a mark of originality, creativity, and excellence in public transportation marketing and communications,” said APTA President William W. Millar.

The People Mover’s “ReDiscover Downtown Detroit” train was designed under the direction of DPM’s General Manager, Barbara Hansen, to market and promote Downtown Detroit. Ms. Hansen said, “We are truly thrilled and honored to receive this wonderful award. Not only were we celebrating our own 20th Anniversary this year, but we also wanted to pay homage to the many established and enduring businesses, plus new and exciting things that are happening in Downtown Detroit. These include new retail and dining destinations and increased entertainment venues, all of which foster greater public awareness of Downtown as a great place to live, visit and return to frequently.”

The Detroit People Mover is owned and operated by The Detroit Transportation Corporation. For more information, please visit http://www.thepeoplemover.com/, or call (313) 224-2160 during regular business hours.
