Fraport Traffic Figures - September 2007

FRANKFURT, Germany, October 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Frankfurt Airport welcomed 5,030,510 passengers in September 2007 - an increase of 0.9 percent on the same month last year. This was the first time the FRA air transportation hub exceeded the five million passenger mark in a September. It was also the first time in FRA's history that the airport topped this record mark in three successive months.

Up 2.3 percent, intercontinental traffic continued to be the major growth driver. Destinations in the U.S.A, the Caribbean, and South America picked up noticeably, growing at rates of 4.1 percent, 2.4 percent, and 7.1 percent respectively. Middle East traffic continued to increase at a high level ( up 6.9 percent).

FRA also reached a new September record for airfreight throughput: 180,119 metric tons represented an increase of 2.1 percent on the previous September, when the airport handled 176,489 metric tons of cargo. In contrast, FRA's airmail tonnage dropped slightly by 0.1 percent to 7,787 metric tons in the reporting month.

With 42,520 takeoffs and landings, the number of aircraft movements at FRA in September was almost level with the previous year. At 2,436,065 metric tons, accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) also remained nearly unchanged compared to the same month last year.

During the first three quarters of 2007, Frankfurt Airport recorded 2.1 percent more passengers than in the comparable period of the previous year. A total of 41,032,180 passengers have used FRA since the beginning of 2007. For the full year, Fraport, the airport operator, expects passenger growth of 2 percent at FRA.

From January to September Frankfurt Airport handled 1,537,297 metric tons of airfreight. This represents an increase of 1.7 percent. Airmail activity dropped by 2 percent in the first nine months of 2007 to a total of 68,080 metric tons.

With 370,992 takeoffs and landings, aircraft movements at FRA grew 0.6 percent in the first nine months of 2007. Accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) climbed 0.7 percent to 21,210,806 metric tons during the same period.

In September 2007, the Fraport Group's airports welcomed a total of 7,572,152 passengers, an increase of 3.6 percent year-on-year. Fraport's Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN) registered 372,698 passengers, or 10 percent growth. Antalya Airport (AYT) in Turkey served 960,941 passengers, an increase of 4.8 percent. This figure for the first time also includes activity at AYT's domestic terminal which Fraport started operating on September 14, 2007. About 94.100 passengers used it in the remaining days of September. Lima Airport (LIM), in Peru, saw the strongest increase, with traffic jumping 26.8 percent on September 2006 to 649,152 passengers. In Bulgaria, Burgas Airport (BOJ) reported 5.8 percent growth to 318,443 passengers, while Varna (VAR) was the Fraport Group's only airport to experience 6.1 percent decline to 241,263 passengers.

In September, Cargo activity at Frankfurt, Frankfurt-Hahn, Antalya, Lima, Burgas and Varna airports together increased by 4.2 percent to 223,079 metric tons. Group-wide, the number of aircraft movements rose 3.7 percent to 64,944 takeoffs and landings.

During the first three quarters of 2007, passenger traffic at the Fraport Group's airports climbed 5.8 percent to 58,014,993 passengers and cargo throughput (airfreight and airmail) increased 2.4 percent to 1,819,253 metric tons.
