Oct. 16–Think Eddie Merlot’s is out of your price range? Maybe not.

The tony beef and seafood eatery at Jefferson Pointe is offering an anniversary celebration now through Nov. 18. For $29.95, you get a choice of 6-ounce prime filet mignon, rosemary chicken, grilled fresh salmon, double-cut pork chop or Eddie’s favorite stuffed shrimp.

Garlic mashed potatoes, fresh steamed broccoli and a half-order of Eddie Merlot’s garden salad or Caesar salad come with the entree. The special even includes your choice of a glass of wine from Toasted Head Winery or one of Eddie Merlot’s house martinis.

Visit www.eddiemerlots.com to make an online reservation, or call 459-2222. The lounge opens at 4 p.m. daily and the restaurant opens at 5 p.m.

Eat, drink — and shop

What a combination — food, wine and shopping.

Sigma Alpha Chi Sorority is planning a pasta bake, shopping expo and wine tasting Oct. 25 at St. Jude Catholic Church parish hall, 2130 Pemberton Drive (across from Parkview Hospital).

The food will be served 5-7 p.m., and the shopping and wine tasting run 5-9 p.m.

Vendors include Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple, Mary Kay, Tupperware, Hoosier Soy Candles, Lia Sophia Jewelry and crafter Norma Harris.

Dinner is a homemade pasta bake with salad, dinner roll, dessert and drink. Cost is $7 adults, $5 ages 4-12, free age 4 and under.

Win free pizza

Almost everybody craves pizza at least once a month, don’t they? In honor of National Pizza Month (October), both Uno Chicago Grills in Fort Wayne are giving customers the opportunity to enjoy a pizza a month for a year.

Sunday-Oct. 25, each customer who orders a regular deep-dish pizza may enter a drawing to win one regular pizza per month for a year. There will be one winner from each location: 4820 N. Clinton St. and 10460 Maysville Road in Chapel Ridge shopping center.

Last chance for baklava

Next Monday is the deadline to order baklava and cheese or spinach pites from the Philoptochos and Daughters of Penelope. Prices are $4 for sweet bread, $12 for a 20-piece pan of baklava, $21 for a 40-piece pan of baklava, and $7.50 for cheese or spinach pites.

To place an order, call Bess Printzos at 490-1009 or Teddy Harmon at 745-7246.

Pickup times are 4-8 p.m. Nov. 15 and 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 16 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 110 E. Wallen Road.

Lunch specials

Waynedale Bakery, 2610 Lower Huntington Road, is serving the following daily specials 11 a.m.-2 p.m.: chili with cornbread Wednesday, smoked sausage with macaroni and cheese Thursday, and chicken and noodles Friday. The bakery also has pumpkin rolls, about 10 inches long, for $7.50.

Still standing

Bill’s Palace is gone. Belmont Beverage is gone. But in the vast wasteland that will become Harrison Square, one restaurant is still standing. The Subway at 301 W. Jefferson Blvd. hasn’t fallen victim to the wrecking ball yet. An employee at the store said it will be open until the first of the year, and probably until February or March.

Updates

Both of these restaurants look as if they’re open, but they’re not quite ready for business yet.

–El Patron, the Mexican restaurant going in where Hacienda used to be on Illinois Road in Jefferson Pointe, is close to opening. Word is, the owners are planning to open Oct. 25.

— The IHOP restaurant in the 6700 block of West Jefferson Boulevard is also close to opening. An employee said it is expected to open around the end of this month.
