A NEW railway station in Fulham has appeared on maps of London even though it isn’t yet built.

Imperial Wharf station appears on the West London line near Chelsea Harbour Pier in the latest A-Z maps of the capital and on Ordnance Survey maps because it should have been finished last month.

But in reality building work has not even begun because Network Rail, Transport for London and the council involved in the project are arguing over the cost. Hammersmith and Fulham council blamed Network Rail for the delay, accusing it of putting up the price of construction work and project management fees.

Deputy leader Nicholas Botterill said: "We have gone as far as we can in terms of financing the building of this station and we are asking Network Rail to pay for the last Pounds 1.4 million of the Pounds 8 million cost.

"Failure is not an option as local business, residents and commuters are desperate for the station to be completed as soon as possible." A Network Rail spokesman said: "We have had a revised estimate from the various contractors involved which puts the cost at around Pounds 8 million. We’re disappointed by this increase and will be working with the council, developer and contractors to understand what lies behind it."
