SUEZ Energy North America Announces the Acquisition of a 67-Megawatt Gas-Fired Peaking Power Generation Facility in Texas
Posted on: Wednesday, 17 October 2007, 15:00 CDT
HOUSTON, Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- SUEZ Energy North America (SENA) today announced the acquisition of the 67-megawatt (MW) New Gulf facility in Wharton County, Texas. The New Gulf facility was owned by affiliates of Denham Commodity Partners Fund LP. The facility is located about 60 miles southwest of Houston, within the second-largest load center in ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas). The peaking facility is designed to achieve full load from a cold start within 30 minutes.
SUEZ Energy Marketing North America (SEMNA), a business unit of SENA, will offer full-service physical and financial power sales from the facility. The facility interconnects to the Houston Pipeline Company, a subsidiary of Energy Transfer Partners, LP, which will provide access to gas supplies and transportation services.
"Strong demographic trends and a growing Texas economy are driving up electric demand within the ERCOT market," said Zin Smati, president and chief executive officer for SUEZ Energy North America. "This project will help to address the area's peak electricity needs, and benefit from being located in a market in which SUEZ has existing generation and robust wholesale and retail marketing and sales capabilities." Smati added that the timing is important, in that it coincides with projected tightening electricity reserve margins in ERCOT.
